The Area’s First Online Catch and Release Striped Bass Tournament
APRIL 3, 2016- HudsonValleySportsman.com has announced an Online Catch and Release Striper Tournament with an environmentally-friendly format. Hudson River anglers are invited to participate in a competitive fishing contest that is sensitive to the Striped Bass populations of the Hudson Valley.
Last year, the online catch and release format debuted as one of the first of its kind in the Hudson Valley area and is much different from more commonly found weigh-in tournaments. The online model allows anglers to simply use a smartphone to photograph, document and submit a fish for entry. Once entered, the leading fish is posted to the HudsonValleySportsman.com website within minutes. Contestants can check the website throughout each day of the tournament allowing them to release any fish that does not beat the current leader. In other more traditional tournaments, fish that are guessed to be in contention are unknowingly transported to weigh stations causing fish to expire in numbers. Our online catch and release format greatly improves on traditional contests in that it not only provides for the safe release of the entered fish but eliminates the need to critically transport fish that never had a chance of winning.
Fisheries within the Hudson Valley, as well as across the country and around the world, have benefited from proper catch and release practices, and HudsonValleySportsman.com wishes to further educate and encourage people to utilize such strategies to preserve the environment. Of course, the organization also wants sportsmen and women to have fun and enjoy a fair, yet competitive fishing tournament.
The Second Annual Online Catch and Release Striper Tournament will take place on the weekend of April 30th and May 1st, 2016. Registration for both days is a flat rate of $25, and participants ages 15 and younger can register for free with a paid adult entry. For each day, a $600 award will go to the adult with the longest fish. First place trophies and a fishing gear package for juniors will be awarded each day, and lots of other randomly awarded prizes will be announced.
Registration is now open online. More information can be found at https://hvsevents.com/.
